Décor tips for kids’ rooms

Whether you live in a spacious home or a tiny apartment, there’s nothing quite like having a room of your very own when you’re a kid. Plus – decorating kids’ rooms are an excuse to let out your fun and creative side – you can try out wild experiments, funky colours and bold patterns that would look out of place in the rest of the house – but are perfect for making a creative space for your littles to learn and dream in. Here are just a few of our top tips for creative kids’ rooms.

Keep it interactive…

Kids’ rooms are more than just a bedroom. They’re spaces to play, learn and create. Add fun but easy to clean interactive features – like a chalkboard-paint feature wall that they can scribble across to their heart’s content. Add a solid play table– it’s more than just a place for school work. Top it up with baskets of easy crafty pieces – the simple mix of glue, glitter and paper can give hours of endless fun.

Go bold…

Colour can be a great way to transform a room – especially if it’s on the small side. Go for bright and clean colours like lilac, yellow or powder blue – to give an open and airy feel. Don’t overwhelm the room with too much colour, but add bold, funky touches with bright patterned curtains and throws, and top chests of drawers or cupboards with funky, retro toys to add an inventive look.

Use space creatively…

If you’re tight on space, kids’ rooms can be a bit of a challenge. With toys, clothes, books and more to fit in, it’s time to think creatively. Make the most of space by looking at the room creatively – bunk-beds and underbed storage options are a perfect way of creating space, without feeling cramped. Use wall space creatively with shelves and box cubes to store books and toys. An old-fashioned solid wood toy chest is a great way of storing toys away neatly and easily, and makes a handy bench too.
A touch of whimsy…

Lastly, don’t forget to have fun. With a wave of a wand and swish of silk, your child’s bedroom transforms into a magician’s show, a ballet stage or a superstar celeb’s dressing room. Add inventive features  to encourage play, like a simple wall mirror decorated with magical fairy lights,  a fairytale fantasy canopy over the bed, or even a DIY tepee or fort – perfect for hiding away from grown ups.
