Furniture Buying Guide

Shopping online is an exciting and easy way to refurbish your home. We have hundreds of products to compare on site with photographs and detailed information about each item provided. To help make your online shopping experience even easier and ensure the furniture you choose is perfect, we have created this comprehensive buying guide. If you have any further questions about buying furniture online, please see our FAQs section or get in touch.

Measuring up

It is important to make sure that the furniture you love will fit your room and requirements, before you order. We provide full dimensions for every product on site; you’ll find these under the product description. All you have to do is measure the space and entryways to your home to ensure it’s a perfect fit.

  • When taking measurements, allow plenty of space to move around the furniture and open drawers and cabinet doors. If you are ordering a dining table, allow 60cm extra clearance for pulled-out chairs.
  • Consider architectural features such as radiators, pillars, doorways and fireplaces. Furniture should be positioned away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
  • Ensure the furniture will be in proportion and balanced with the rest of the room by mapping out the dimensions of the piece in paper or tape on the floor.
  • Our furniture will arrive assembled, so please ensure that it can be moved through doors and hallways with ease. Measure doors and the length and width of rooms to check for manoeuvrability. We also recommend taking note of any corners or potentially obstructive architectural features.

Wood sample service

We know that committing to an online purchase can be daunting, which is why we offer a wood sample service for the majority of our collections. If you would like to take a closer look at the colour and finish of a particular product, we can send you a small sample. This is completely free of charge, including delivery. To order your sample, follow this link to the relevant section and checkout as normal.

Style advice

Whether you’re refurbishing an entire room or selecting one new piece, styling the space is important. You will want the furniture to fit the interior design scheme and compliment other features or furniture in the space. We provide photographs and detailed descriptions of each piece, but please note that image colours may vary slightly on different computer monitors.

Our huge range of furniture is available in many styles, from rustic charm and shabby chic to cool retro and modern minimalism. We have something to suit every taste and every home. Here are a few style notes to keep in mind when choosing furniture.

  • Matching sets create an attractive coherent look which is ideal for smaller spaces. You can equip an entire room with matching furniture using one of our beautiful collections.
  • Alternatively, contrasting furniture offers a stylishly eclectic look. For example, pieces from our oak collections and painted white collections can be styled together to great effect.
  • Having enough storage space is a priority in any home, big or small. We offer a huge selection of highly functional pieces that are both practical and stylish.
  • Darker woods create an impact but look heavier and bigger so are more suited to larger rooms. A traditional colour scheme with natural hues is a fantastic accompaniment to darker furniture.

Delivery Notes

We offer a FREE delivery service to all customers on the UK mainland (a small surcharge applies to Northern Scotland only). This is a one-man courier service, delivered to your door at a pre-arranged date. Regretfully, we are unable to deliver to any island addresses due to prohibitively high delivery costs of furniture to these locations.

Furniture will arrive fully assembled, with the exception of some pieces with fragile parts and pieces which would not otherwise fit through standard doorways. This relates primarily to dining tables which are normally supplied with the legs removed for easy assembly (fittings are included, naturally) and to wardrobes and beds for ease of access into your home.

Please note that our insurance policy does not cover delivery into the home or up stairs so arrangements should be made to cover this. Detailed information about our delivery service is available here.
